Windows 7 is quick and stable. Stick with it. And stay away from Windows 8. A cluster f*ck of an operating system if I ever saw one. In years to come, this will be derided as much as Vista was.

Why do you say W8 is a cluster?

It's fun easy, quick, smooth, & stable. Even on an old regular laptop upgraded to W8 runs faster than 7 or XP. If you have a touchscreen it's great. Using a finger to navigate a website is awesome. It's different yes and takes a little time to get used to. Use a laptop with a touch screen for and hour or 2 than go back to your old mouse or touch pad. You'll be constantly reaching for the screen.

You can upgrade for $30 it's a great deal.

Yup if you have a touch screen it runs great - that's pretty much the market MS have aimed it at. But for the non tablet corporate world or even a home user with a non touch screen it's really clunky to have to switch between the desktop mode and the metro/tablet mode. I briefly installed it and speed wise it's fine, but the GUI is bad and a lot of people will struggle with it. I would imagine a lot of CIOs making the decision to skip Windows 8 or at the very least put an upgrade on hold because of the potential nightmare trying to introduce something that is radically different to previous MS operating systems. There is nothing wrong with Windows 7, they should have added a few bells and whistles to Win 7 and created a second tablet version.
