Wallabies reject new rules for All Blacks test

    DUNCAN JOHNSTONE

Australia have backed away from plans to play next week's Bledisloe Cup test against the All Blacks under the new rules being trialled in New Zealand's national provincial championship.

The rules, designed to speed up the game, are also being trialled in Europe and will be used during the test window up there when southern hemisphere teams tour.

The Bledisloe Cup test was seen as an opportunity for the Wallabies and All Blacks to get a grip on the rulings before they tour.

The All Blacks were certainly keen to play under them.

The rules, specifically the need to clear the ball within five seconds from the base of rucks, will surely play into the hands of the All Blacks with their lightning game.

That will obviously be a factor in Australia's decision to stick with the status quo for Brisbane on October 20.

The Australians have said they want to complete the home season under the current rules and select and plan accordingly for their tour north which features tests against France, England, Italy and Wales.

The All Blacks play Scotland, Italy, Wales and England on their northern tour.

Meanwhile, Sanzar wants Argentina to address crowd behaviour in its review of the just completed Rugby Championship.

The last two matches in Argentina featured fans trying to distract opposition goalkickers by targeting them with laser beams.

Fantastic rule! I'm assuming it's a scrum if you don't, or free kick?

after the ball was in play for only 27 mins in Rosario, I am in favour of:

    1) Only the team attacking with ball in hand can kick penalties for goal
    2) No penalty kicks for goal from within own half
    3) No penalty kicks for goal from scrum penalties
    4) Clock is stopped for penalty kicks

I know penalty kick debate is a broken record, but there were more than than a dozen penalty kicks each taking at least a minute. The last one from Beale was a disgrace of time wasting.

Yeah they definitely need to reduce the amount of penalties. Probably have more free kicks rather than full penalties.

They tried that with the ELVs - just led to constant aimless kicks down field whenever there was an infringement (yes I'm aware that's become the norm for us this year).
