    MICHAEL CHEIKA has re-established himself as favourite for the Waratahs' head coaching job.

    The Herald has been told that Waratahs officials have informed several coaching candidates they have missed out. But there remains strong interest in Cheika, who was recently involved with Stade Francais. An announcement is expected within the next week.

    It is understood Cheika impressed members of the Waratahs' appointment panel in a recent interview. He had travelled from Paris to Sydney for the meeting.

    Cheika was contracted in France and there were always going to be problems, financial and contractual about him coming to us. Maybe the Tahs have more sway because let's face it he doesn't need the dollars
