    Travel Considerations

There has been a fair bit of talk around about how much travel different teams undertake and the toll it takes on bodies. I decided to do a bit of an analysis on just how much travel teams have to do.

I decided to use this season's fixtures (ie 2012) and did a simple distance "as the crow flies" between the cities as my "distance flown" (thanks google earth). A rough and ready way of doing it but lacking sufficient time I decided this would give a good approximation. I decided to arbitrarily pit the Sharks, Crusaders, Reds and Force against one another. I give you my results which may not shock too many diehard force supporters...

    Force - 48,000 km
    Crusaders - 36,000 km
    Reds - 35,000 km
    Sharks - 31,000 km

As you can see, the Force are travelling about a third more than the nearest rival. If you have read Matt Hodgson's article about the horrors of travel http://www.matthodgson.com.au/rugby/...up-in-the-air/ then you will see that this puts us at a huge disadvantage. Although, we have an obvious exception to this rule last year when the Crusaders travelled a whopping 76,000 km in 2011 and were still able to make it to the final...

For completeness and for comparison purposes (according to 2012 fixtures):

    WC Eagles 55,000 km
    Collingwood 12,000 km
    Essendon 12,000 km

    According to 2012 fixtures.

    Qld Cowboys 42,000 km
    NZ Warriors 40,000 km
Roosters 14,000 km (6,000km thanks to trip to Darwin)
    Eels 7,000 km

It'd be nice to play NRL in one of the Sydney teams...

As I have explained many times before, if it were not for the likes of Collingwood playing at the MCG to a capacity crowd most weeks of the season, the AFL would not have enough $$$ for the Budgies, Shockers, Crows or Port to even comtemplate being part of the same competiton. HTFU or FO

But I am pissed off about the Force having to travel more than others

I'm just imagining a Collingwood supporter getting their heads around an away game: "You mean we have to go to the Etihad?"
