    Australia Day Honours

    This is from Foxsports.com.au here

Stirling Mortlock, 34, and George Smith, 31, were also appointed Officers of the Order of Australia, for their services to the sport of rugby as leading players.

Mortlock, preparing to lead the Melbourne Rebels for a second season, in the 2012 Super Rugby competition, said his humbling Australia Day recognition meant even more coming beside the amazingly resilient Smith.

"It's just great to get this honour alongside of him," Mortlock said.

"Georgey was possibly a once-in-a-generation style of player.

"He just did things that no one else was capable of doing, and his consistency to perform at the highest level week-in week-out and year-in year-out was absolutely phenomenal.

"He was a freak of a player and thankfully I pretty much always played with him."

Congratulations to Sterling Mortlock and George Smith (and others) on their Orders of Australia Medal.

Just a thought but I think that there is a player that could be worthy of a similar award for services to Rugby Union, and the promotion of Rugby Union in Western Australia. This could be a very good idea this year as it may be the final year of this players Super Rugby career.

according to this website a nomination can come from an individual or a community body or organisation.

Nominating for the Order of Australia

Appointments to the Order of Australia confer recognition for outstanding achievement and service to the Australian community or humanity at large.

Nominations to the General Division of the Order of Australia come directly from the community. The nomination may come from an individual or a group such as a community organisation or professional body.

The nomination should include an outline of how the nominee has made a significant contribution to the community. It is helpful to include examples that show how the nominee has gone above and beyond what could reasonably be expected of someone in a similar position. Contact details for the nominator (the person making the nomination), the nominee and referees who can directly comment on the nominee also need to be provided.

All nominations are confidential. The person being nominated should not be advised of their nomination or approached for information at any stage.

Agree, IMO I also thought the sentiment behind the stamps is a tad early as well
