Kiwis boot Wallabies from World Cup

NEW Zealand fans taunted Australians with "four more years" chants as the All Blacks edged closer to ending their World Cup curse with victory over the Wallabies at Eden Park.

The nervous Australian team was blown off the park by the fired-up Kiwis, who now have one hand on the Webb Ellis Cup after booking a date with France in next weekend's final.

The relief of a jittery nation after 24 years of World Cup failure was obvious at Eden Park, where gloating All Blacks fans in the 60,027-strong crowd borrowed the famous sledge of George Gregan in 2003 to farewell their trans-Tasman rivals as they left the ground.

After beating the Wallabies for the first time in a World Cup, New Zealand now appear a certainty to break their title drought next Sunday in a replay of the 1987 final with a weak French outfit.

The Wallabies will have to make do with a replay of the 1987 third versus fourth playoff with Wales on Friday after simply failing to counter the All Blacks' huge intensity.

Australia's young side was a shadow of their normal confident selves, kicking too often and too poorly and coughing up far too much ball when rare attacks were launched.

New Zealand scored the only try of the match through Ma'a Nonu in the first half but, showing no ill-effects of missing Dan Carter, the boot of Piri Weepu did the rest.

But while the Kiwis appeared unfazed by the loss of Carter, the Wallabies desperately missed Kurtley Beale at fullback.

Australia gave up far too much territory and possession under the high ball, and lacked Beale's instinctive attacking thrust as well.

Quade Cooper had another poor night, making crucial errors and failing to lead Australia when they needed a talisman.

In contrast, the experienced All Blacks remained superbly composed under the vast pressure of an expectant nation and defended like demons.

Robbie Deans said it was the best All Blacks performance he'd seen while coaching against them.

"The All Blacks are a very good defensive side. We lost our fluency. All credit to the All Blacks, they attacked the ball very well," Deans said.

"They made it difficult for us to create any momentum.

"We felt the game was in our reach but we just didn't get enough possession to build any pressure. They inhibited our attack."

All Blacks coach Graham Henry praised his captain Richie McCaw, who outpointed his young rival David Pocock in a real captain's knock.

"They had a huge physical presence from minute one to minute 80, led by Richie (McCaw)," Henry said.

The Wallabies trailed 14-6 at halftime after an opening period in which they again conceded a vast majority of territory and possession to the All Blacks.

And it could have been more, had Piri Weepu not had a faulty radar with his goalkicking.

The television cameras focused on Quade Cooper during the national anthems and the under-siege five-eighth gave the black crowd plenty to jeer about when he put the ball straight into touch from the kick-off.

That gave New Zealand an early chance to set up camp in the gold half, and they barely left for the next 40 minutes.

Israel Dagg was brilliant all night and set up the only try in the seventh minute when he gassed around Rocky Elsom out wide and set up Nonu.

Australia rarely looked settled, both with the ball and when in defence.

They missed far too many tackles, and kicked poorly.

New Zealand set up camp. Penalties were traded Weepu missed it in the ninth minute but he made good two minutes later with a kick straight through the posts to lead 6-0.

When the Wallabies finally got some possession they showed glimpses of their potency.

A poor clearance kick by Weepu saw Digby Ioane slide through on the counter-attack and almost score, but a strong Jerome Kaino tackle held him up.

James O'Connor banged over a penalty but as a string of errors from out-of-sorts Cooper errors helped New Zealand back downfield, Weepu missed his second kick in the 18th minute.

Rookie All Blacks No.10 Aaron Cruden showed great composure to slot a field-goal in the 22nd minute but after escaping their territory briefly, Cooper answered him with a nerve-settling drop-goal himself.

The Wallabies' persistent inability to clear their own half saw New Zealand resume occupancy, and Weepu finally slotted a second penalty when Adam Ashley-Cooper was caught accidentally offside in the 37th minute.

The Wallabies immediately went a further three points down when Weepu slotted another penalty after the break but it sparked them into life.

Australia started to build some pressure with the ball in the Kiwi half, but the New Zealand defence proved the equal of the Wallaby attack.

Usually so slick with the ball, the Wallabies looked nervous and flat-footed with slow ball, and handling errors released the pressure at the worst times.

Pat McCabe's shoulder couldn't hold out and he was replaced by Berrick Barnes.

The Kiwis missed two chances to score in the third quarter, with Weepu missing another penalty shot and Dagg scuffing a field goal shot.

But they'd done enough by then.

Sharpie to captain wales game Deans The Slow Learner

Robbie Dingo Deans always states you learn by your mistakes but how many times does it take to get it right as we making the same mistakes nearly everytime he puts the same mistakly stupid teams on the field.... He is not reading the play and putting the right player against the opposition we have lost all our attacking flair... I think it is time he let the rest of the squad have a run against Wales bring on the replacements as the starting team and let Sharpie Captain it in his 100 th test and just see what these guys can do. they cant be any worst than the starting 15 .....I played junior rugby many yrs ago and the 1st thing you taught is you cant win games without having a ball in your hands dont kick dont kick I say it AGAIN and AGAIN dont kick it. well it showed last night the all blacks have watched the wallabies games on the big screen and worked it out if QC is off his game Genia is going to have to kick or run so lets run him down such an easy thing to look at and thats what they did then hammer it back with interest.....
Congrads NZ All Blacks and yes the NZ exchange rate is good for RD dingo to have his under the table payments made...

unfortunately we cant JUST blame quade.
    the team was toilet.

how many tackles did we miss?!?!?!?!
Tonkar is right on. we cant win games when we kick away possession. we never built any pressure to try and force errors or get a break in their defensive line.

we didnt deserve to win. and if we did i would have been pretty disgusted. on form the blacks have deserved this for a few years. we were never going to win.

something needs to change at the wallabies.
and as my boss says, if the people cant change, change the people.

II just don’t understand the tactics. For 3 years its all been about running rugby and the wallabies back line then comes the RWC and boom we become a kicking team (and a very bad one at that) I don’t think you can blame QC or Genia its the tactics that where forced upon them by the higher powers. To move AAC to fullback and bring in Fainga to 13 was a massive mistake, when you put 2 non creative centres on the park up against Nonu and Smith all is says is we concede we cant beat you so these guys will try and stop you. That’s the wrong way to go about it don’t put players in just to stop the others play players that will make Nonu and smith accountable. Barnes and Gits do this as well as offer another player making option. JOC should have been at full back with AAC still and 13 and Turner on the wing much more even back line with Barnes at 12. I just don’t under stand what the thinking was you cant win a game without the ball and when you kick it 31 times you are never going to get a result!

I hope Deans man-love for McCabe at 12 is over. If Deans can't live without him then play him at fullback or wing. How can you play a guy at 12 who REFUSES to pass the farking ball? Does McCabe think to himself 'I know I'll tuck it under my arm and run straight at them I wont even try to sidestep, they'll never be expecting this'.The oposition can't believe their luck, they either hold him up or isolate him.The 3 pointer he gave away at the start of the second half totally fucked whatever momentum the Wallabies hoped to achieve.
Ant Finger is no farking better. He made one dominant tackle in the TN series and he has been dining out on it ever since. He was non-existant in that game.
Digby and JOC are very exciting players but how are they ever going to see the ball with two bone-head centres inside them who have absolutely no idea about attacking rugby?
Genia was too bloody slow and Cooper must have had a 'do-it-youself lobotomy' before the series started.
And where was the passion with the forwards like they showed in the Brisbane Test? How come the coaching staff can't fire them up before the game? Does Robbie at least mumble to them in a loud voice before they run out??
    Yada yada yada....

    Terrible coaching, terrible tactics

We were dominated in the kicking duel last week yet tried it again

Why can't we catch a ball when it is kicked in the air?

Picking Faingaa ahead of Barnes was a joke and everyone except the coach knew it

Digby and O'Connor were our only dangerous backs yet hardly touched the ball because they thought it was more beneficial to get McCabe to take a crash ball up everytime we had it

David Pocock was the lone star in a very miserable performance. Quade Cooper was toilet, Aaron Cruden in his second test was showing him how it's done. Crap tactics, crap decision making when the crap tactics failed, why did we not change?! Fainga'a.2 is as bad as his dreadlocked twin. I doubt McCabe passed the ball once all game. Missing tackles. Boring attack. Revolting centre comination. I don't think Horwill communicated with the ref effectively. Samo's too old. Our usual messy scrum.

Corey Jane was phenomenal. Absolutely amazing performance by a team who definitely deserves to win the world cup. Seriously impressed. We've got a long way to go in the next 4 years.

Nathan Sharpe to Captain his big 100 against Wales. Scott Higginbotham in. Barnes to 10. Brand and AAC in the centres. No McCabe. No Fainga'a, either variety. Hodgson in. Turner to the wing. Beale at FB. No more Alexander. Or Cooper.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...
