Australian to lift Celtic League Title?

Had a short chat with our good friend Burgs about this guy a little while ago. Hopefully the link will work and you can see just how sucessful Justin Harrison has been in our proud little province.

    That drop goal sounds incredible!!

"David Humphreys scored an amazing 75 yard drop kick in the final minute which bounced off one post rolled along the bar and bounced off the other post before dropping over the bar to give Ulster a thoroughly deserved win."

Looking back after the win was secured I can say that it was incredible but I must confess to have been very worried we had let the title slip away. Not sure how much of the story you were aware of but both Ulster and Leinster went into the last game of the season with Ulster 2 points clear at the top of the league.

Both teams were playing sides with nothing to gain and the scandalous selection policy of Edinburgh Gunners practically gave Leinster 5 easy points (they refused to include any internationals in the last game despite the importance of the result to the league).

Ulster Rugby on the other hand faced a very determined and full strength Neath & Swansea Ospreys in Swansea. Neath took an early lead against the play but Ulster chipped away with very adventurous rugby to be in the lead despite the good Dr Humphreys missing 2 relatively easy (for him) penalties. With about 10 mins to go and the score still in Ulster's favour the Ospreys scored a breakaway try to put them 17 -16 ahead, then as if in a script that only Humphreys had read he stroked the drop goal from what seemed like an impossible distance...off both posts and over to make it 17 - 19. The ref (Bl**dy Scot) did his best to find about 8 minutes of overtime but Ulster held on to win and clinch the Celtic League by a point over what must have been a demoralised Leinster whose game had finished minutes before in Edinburgh.

If you can get a copy of the match it is worth watching right to the end when in the traditional way the team led by Justin Harrison went throught the crowd to lift the trophy. IMHO much better than the way trophies tend to be presented in the middle of the pitch on a makeshift stage.

You can imagine the party afterwards...my liver is wrecked. Bring on next season.

    Slow Mo Replay (2.13MB)

Quality aint real flash, but you get the idea... The sound was pretty messed up on the original I took these clips form.
