2011 WA results in Div2 Schoolboys

The West Australian Schoolboy side rounded out their Division 2 pool matches with their best performance of the tournament, thumping Tasmania 46-0 on Monday morning.

Superb execution at the set piece allowed WA to continually attack the Tassie side and they were able to run in eight tries while keeping their opponents scoreless. Forwards Jordan Hanson, Halvor Harris and Dean Van Schalkwyk all scored a brace while Tom Enright and Moses Duffy also joined in on the action with five pointers.

It was a nice way to finish after the West Aussies were frustrated in their opening two outings in Melbourne, going down by narrow margins to South Australia and the Lloyd McDermott Development Team (LMDT).

I'm confused..WA sends a team to both Division 1 & 2 of the Schoolboys Comp?

I think it is like an A team in the ones and a B team in the twos. In the ones NSW and QLD have two teams.

That's a very good sign of the growing depth in WA junior Rugby. Providing two competitive teams in two divisions. Good signs for the future.

It happened for the first time last year - in the past the lads went to the DIV II comp and then had to make the combined states team to go to Div I. WA and Vic kept winning the Div II. In 2009, the combined states made the final of Div I being primarily Vic and WA boys. The old establishment decided that this was not fair so they boosted both States to the DIV I comp and allowed both states to supply a "B" team for the Div II comp. This also worked in the Qld and NSW favor as the combined team is now primarily a combination of third string QLD and NSW with a token rep from Tas, NT, Indigenous.

It does expose more of our boys here in WA to a higher level of comp which is good but we are still a way off being fully competitive in the Div I, though the number of WA lads getting rep jerseys this year is very encouraging. Something seems to be working. Now lets see the ARU screw it all up by stopping the funding for the Force Academy, leaving these lads with no where to go .... again!
