MacQueen set to exit the Rebels?

Rebels coach Rod Macqueen is expected to stand down following the franchise's final match of the season against the Force at AAMI Park.

While Macqueen would not confirm or deny the speculation, a club spokesperson told Melbourne radio the former Wallabies mentor is set to leave his post.

The 1999 World Cup-winning coach did, however, confirm that an announcement would be made by the club early next week.

"We've had a succession plan in place from day one, and it's something we weren't likely to discuss until the end of the season," said Macqueen.

Rumour has it that he's off to Canberra to be Jake White's assistant at the Brumbies.

IIRC McQueen was always intended to be a short term appointment as head coach. Again IIRC, he was to take more of a mentoring role from the beginning in any event.

"Most successful expansion franchise ever". If you base that solely on wins. Force 2006 were more competitive for sure without as many wins.

Define expansion franchise because the Cheetahs picked up 5 wins in 13 games in 2006. Sure they also competed in 1997, but they were still technically an expansion franchise when they reentered in 2006.

The Rebels only have 3 wins in 15 games and to make matters worse, where the Force steadily improved over the season scoring most of their points in the back end of the season, the Rebels seem to have gotten worse. And where the Force had a handful of development players to look forward to, the Rebels have a lot of old and crocked guys (Freier and Cordingley esp.) and have under-utilised the youth they have (Luke Jones).

he was always going to be a start up coach and move on to executive/rugby director... He has done a great job getting the rebels up and running... Outstanding value to any organisation is Mcqueen...
