Why sign a petition that's going to cost Australian farmers their jobs, a shit load of income, another policy by a government on the run, I'll agree that the pictures and footage weren't that great to see, but once livestock (or any product for that matter!) is sold overseas why should the government of the country who shipped have a say in how it's treated?.... What's to stop these countries sourcing their meat supplies from other countries, meaning less Australian jobs, infrastructure, ect ect....

People are hypocrites. They jump up in arms about an issue one week and forget about it the next. If people were really bothered about cruel and sadistic treatment of members of the animal kingdom, then a petition would've been sent around to have Karl Stefanovic taken off television years ago.

Broome & Wyndham and maybe a few more which closed because of live cattle exports. Not sure if Robbs jetty was an export meatworks.

It's not the quality control in slaughterhouses; for meat to be halal it has to be killed by having it's throat cut. Islamic teachings say that humane killers, or even stunning the animals first, prevents the meat from being halal. Muslims take this shit seriously, even fairly moderate ones.

But I'm with slomo - once the animals are sold and exported, why do we care? We may want everyone to live by our rules, but I want everyone to watch rugby and screw the AFL - ain't gonna happen either. Stopping the export just hurts the farmers, the slaughterhouses will continue with their current practice, just with stock from different countries.

i thought last night that if we are going to take the high moral ground then by rights we should stop exporting all minerals to china - they use slave wages, poor working conditions and no safety to their human workers so we should stop that too!! LOL government on the run and people signing petitions without knowing anything about it. Indonesia have come out and simply said - we'll buy more beef form NewZealand over night

NZ does not export live beef for slaughter--only some breeding stock
