What is James O'Connor's best position?

    Lifted this from Fox Sports.
I think the most telling thing isn't the actual numbers but just the even spread of opinion.
Will be interesting to compare the wider Rugby audience opinion with that of the Force faithful.

What is James O'Connor's best position?

    Flyhalf 22.51%

    Inside Centre 22.94%

    Wing 24.04%

    Fullback 30.5%

pretty even .. i think that poll makes it reasonably clear that he is quite a versatile little fella .. personally I would go against the trend and select flyhalf!

Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.

IMHO he is still in his apprenticeship - 2 years ago he couldn't tackle effectively now he can, I reckon we can look forward to JOC 12, Quade 10, Genia 9 as a truly world class backline in the future - just about on a par with our backrows.

Isn't it fantastic for us to have such a versatile back with real leadership potential who is also such a team player. Rugby is such a unusual game in that teams win - individuals who are brilliant on a team rarely win the game on their own.

I don't think his play in any one position marks it out as the best; he's been moved around so much he knows how to play all four positions, but hasn't had the opportunity to become the best in the world at any - maybe he'll get that chance at 10 with Ripia continually injured.

I'm a little concerned that his versatility will work against him in Wallaby selection - AAC got lots of bench duty due to his versatility, but Deans seems to acknowledge JO'C has to be on the field, and then work out how to achieve that.

    yeah Fullbacki reckon
although having some extra height never hurt at 15 i dont think its always necessary if he can offer improvements in other areas.. such as counter attack and defence (his defence has improved out of sight this year)

Well that would make it a bit difficult to compare with the Fox one wouldn't it?

Over time i see him moving into 12. Although i'd like to see him tried at 13.

He can play #10 pretty well, but that is more of a specialist position that takes time to develop in. (At test level anyway)

But for now he should remain a utility seeing as the Wallabies want him on the wing. After the WC he will/should settle somewhere.

For mine, he is a bit short and light for fullback and too slow for the wing, so one of the other two. Truth is we haven't seen him in either long enough to really judge.

I'm hoping to see him get plenty of time at 12 once Ripia is fit. Apart from his ability with ball in hand, he'll command so much attention from defenders that Willie will be able to create space for our pace men with his long passing game.

i like him best at fullback.

i think you can be any size you like playing fullback. so long as you can catch, read play, have wheels and kick like a mule, the jobs yours.

I THINK 12 will be his best position, but he hasn't spent enough time there to really develop. His skill set seems best suited to a 'second five' type of 12, the sort of guy who's equally capable slipping in to first receiver as he is with playing off the talents of the 10.

For rabbit to be the 12 I think a more solid 10 than Quade would be required though. Maybe Berrick would be a better match, Berrick has a smarter tactical game, and a marginally better boot, he would be a better distributor, who could use the threat of rabbit outside him to create situations he can exploit.
