    F@#K

I guess we are still pretty strong there, Wykes and McCalman can start at 4 and 5 for the practice games and round 1 if we need. But still a big loss.

Hmm, what are our other locking options?

Wykes, Hocking, McCalman (prefer him in the back row though) and Battye.

Battye is still very green and Id be loathe to rely on him.

Hocking needs to start and stand up. He is a genuine lock and capable of leading the lineout. Wykes and McCalman are both converted backrowers. Id have Wykes in lock and McCalman at 8. Putting McCalman at lock with Hocking and a very young hooker in either Charles or Whittaker is going to turn one of our strengths in the lineout to a weakness.

What that will mean is that Battye will be on the bench, which isnt ideal but something we will have to live with. Hopefully Battye can step up to Super rugby quickly. Inman and McCalman last year were a little different to Battye as they were both a year or two older than Battye - and this is the age where they put the bulk on.

Relax. At worst he'll miss the first game of the season against the Reds. Who'd have thought a 2nd round bye would turn out to be a good thing.
