Not convinced he is a great signing, but he wont get a game anyway, with Inman being first choice and Cummins being suitable to cover.

I think most of the signings in the last month have either been injury cover or development signings. He still seems youg, maybe there's something in him to develop.

Both young. Both have potential. That makes them fairly good signings in my book.

Word on Fox sports is that the Tahs have signed former Force lock Pat O'Connor. Good luck to him. I hope his knee troubles are all over.

Picked up OConnor to cover for Caldwell who is out for 2011 to get over Crohn's Disease - poor bugger.

Mafi I am not too worried about, he has a bit of pace on him.
But I dont honestly see either of these guys developing beyond injury cover. But that is what we need so glad to have them on board.

Would love to be proved wrong mind!

If a back hasn't cracked it by 25........forget about it
Different for forwards. Some of them don't really make an impact till late 20's
Backs who haven't cracked it by 25 are too slow
Slow backs either convert to the pack or play subbies

This trend of signing and retaining injury prone players could cause issues in 2011

I don't know if our players are any more injury prone than yours. Rod Davies, Digby Ioane, Peter Hynes Will Chambers have all spent serious stints on the sidelines this year. And those are just the guys who's names I can remember. Are you suggesting you wouldn't recommend the Reds re-sign any of those players?

Were talking about the Force here, considering the Force's injury problems last year i think its a rather valid point.

I don't think we'll have massive injury problems this year. No more than any other club. Our real injury problems last year centred around 3 players. Andre Pretorius, David Pocock and Richard Brown. Pocock and Brown aren't particularly injury prone and it was just pure bad luck that both copped a 6 week injury in the opening game of the season. Andre Pretorius was, in hindsight, a bad call without a legitimate back up. Poor recruitment there. But if those three hadn't been injured when they were and lasted the whole season I'd wager we'd have won at least another 3 games that we didn't.

I don't know Alfi Mafi or Rory Sidey's injury history that well. I do know Sidey missed a fair bit of last season for the Tahs. But that doesn't mean they are going to continue to have injuries in 2011. I don't think the Force is stupid enough (Pretorius aside maybe) to sign someone who has a specific injury problem. When we signed Caleb Brown a couple of years back it was under the proviso that the hamstrings wouldn't flare up. As far as I'm aware these two don't have any specific problems.

We always knew Pretorius was a bit of a gamble but we didn't have a whole lot of choice...if it had of come off it would have been well worth it

Read in the Worst this morning a bit about Alfi Mafi's signing being contingent on the results of a medical examination. Hmmm. Maybe you were right TOCC.

Still I guess when there aren't a whole lot of players to choose from you take what you can get. I think Mafi is probably a step up from Haig Sare.

Mafi scored a try in yesterday's Shute Shield final.
