the South African road network is one of the most advanced in the world.. superb condition, plenty of space, easy to read signage..
unfortunately if you are in the wrong lane and need to exit... youre screwed.

During my hockey teams school tour of joburg we had an inexperienced (zimbabwean first time in SA) bus driver and we did a grand tour of greater Gauteng, drove down an on-ramp instead of an offramp (that was fun reversing a 60ft bus back onto a freeway at 7 at night!), got lost in Hillbrow, and missed another turning because we were in the fast lane 3 lanes to the right of where we shouldve been. the poor guy was a mess.

    so yeah
id be worried less about being shot and more about getting from A to B having to use their highways!

oh and if John leaves early - which logic says he will Good luck and thanks for the great memories!!

I only made it halfway from the airport to the CBD to my B&B and the place already gave me the willies, not for me thanks but each to their own.

Lions have debuted a large number of future Springboks over the Super Rugby history but just can't retain them. With increased retention/provincial loyalty they would be a very strong unit.

I agree. I can't see him getting the boks job. He is good enough but they play favorites when picking coaches.

It would be odd to see JM sign with the Lions for season 2012. I would of thought he will have a year off to sort his family out and such, SA would be a horrible option for his personal life so just a quick guess would say his SA move is going to happen, but i would be surprised if its next year. But saying that he needs a job so who knows!

And Giteau was the best 10 in the S14s that year. It was only once he got into the Wallabies that he fell apart.

Apparently JM pushes his players very very hard, but will do the work right along side them. Well thats what a mate who played under JM over in Waikato told me.

And in regard to the Lions, I would love to see them get back to the level they should be. Johannesburg has plenty of rugby talent, its just incompetence in management I think that leaves them as the easy beats. Consider at the start of the S12s, and back in the S10 days, Transvaal were one of the most powerful and strongest provincial teams (alongside Qld).

Good luck JM, he has left the Force in quite a strong position after last year. I fully expect us to be praising Graham next year on his results, the foundations of which were buildt by JM.

Is that the same writing that was on the wall when he coached at the Sharks last year or is it the same writing that will be on the wall in a month or so when he goes to Toshiba to fullfill his obligation

i tend to think a 3 week consultancy sojourn with the sharks is a little bit different to a 4 month coaching agreement with the Lions..

As for Toshiba, its been well publicised that was part of the exchange so that they could sign David Hill, its what the japanese do.

Tend to agree with you TOCC. JM not resigning meant that he was going to be looking / had already sorted out a coaching gig somewhere else.

i hope he stays, i want to see as many strong Australian teams as possible, but the whole thing is a bit of a debacle. The Western Force playing roster for 2011 still has quite a few vacant positions, the head coach is in South Africa concentrating on another team. It has already been announced that next year will be his last year and that the assistant coach will take over in the following year.

Cut your losses, get rid of John Mitchell now, let Graham sign the rest of the roster and fill it with players he can see benefiting the Force if not in 2011 but for years after. Pre-season hasnt yet started so it wont be to much disruption to the team and it will allow players to play in 2010 with the knowledge that they are playing a game plan which isnt going to be thrown out at seasons end.

John Mitchell has served the Force well, and maybe in the short term the better option is to keep John Mitchell, but for longer term releasing JM is probably the smarter option.
