An even battle was anticipated this Saturday when the Cottesloe Seagulls traveled to Forrestfield to take on the LJ Hooker Kalamunda Bulls at home. The day started promising for the home club with early success in the lower grades but the Kalamunda Premier side failed to complete the clean sweep of games going down 36-8.

The Bulls were looking for a better performance from their previous effort two weeks ago and the competition bye, during Easter, allowed injured players to recover and return. Cottesloe equally were looking to improve on their early season form which had been patchy.

Considering the Emirates Western Force game the previous night a reasonable sized and spirited local crowd turned out to see the day’s games. Aided by the new Kalamunda Bulls Cheer Leader Squad the supporters roared with approval every foray the Bulls made into Cottesloe's territory.

The first half was very much a wrestle between two relatively even teams with only early penalty’s being traded apiece. Play surged from defense to attack as both teams failed to finish of promising movements. The only try scoring play came when Kalamunda launched a counter attack from defense, kicked the ball ahead, only to have a very unlucky bounce land in the arms of a clear Cottesloe player who scampered away to score. Cottesloe went into the break ahead 10-3.

The second half brought little joy to the home supporters as the Cottesloe forwards got on top and superior fitness around the park laid the platform for their comprehensive win. The home team battled strongly and provided the crowd with a spark scoring a well executed try, however Cottesloe steadied again and ran out well deserved winners 36-8.

Continuing on with his early season good form, Kalamunda Number 8 Brett Walker was best on ground and Kalamunda man of the match.

Other results saw the Genesis Recruitment Third Grade record their third consecutive win 47 – 12, and the Retravision Second Grade played hard fought rugby to account for their Cottesloe opponents 13-6.
