Force wait on key players to commit

NICK TAYLOR, The West Australian May 29, 2010, 11:47 am

The Western Force have seven vacancies to fill as they plan for the Super 15 competition and are sweating on three more senior players who are yet to commit to next season.
While the all-important play- maker's role, vacated by departing former Springbok Andre Pretorius, is top priority, the Force also are looking for experience in the outside backs.
After player reviews, the Force released winger Haig Sare, midfield back Sam Harris and second rower Richard Stanford.
Centre Josh Tatupu has gone to Otago and prop Nic Henderson and second-row rookie Luke Jones have left for the Melbourne Rebels.
Inaugural Force player of the year Scott Staniforth, who rejoined the club from Japan during last season's injury crisis, has been offered a deal but also is considering a counter offer from the Waratahs.
Force management is still negotiating with Wallaby winger Cameron Shepherd, who has indicated he wants to stay in Perth.
The club is waiting to hear whether prop Matt Dunning will take up the option to remain at the club for a further year. It is understood he has received an offer from the Rebels. The Force want an answer by Monday.
"Matt's a bit non-committal at this point in time," Force general manager Mitch Hardy said. "We're getting a bit nervous."
The Force are one of three franchises to put offers to rugby league international convert Luke Rooney.
Former Brumbies centre Gene Fairbanks, 27, currently playing with Randwick after returning from Japan, also is being chased by the Force.
Four youngsters, second row Ted Postal, fly-half Kyle Godwin, prop Cruze Ah-Nau and hooker Siliva Siliva, have been offered Force senior academy contracts.
