HMMM where does the $80Mill come in and how does it relate to an upgrade? Is it $80Mill this year and then more later to upgrade the western and north south stands?

Is there a plan any one has seen?

Last i heard they where looking at something similar to the Skilled Stadium on the gold coast is that still on the cards?

I read it as $80M for the eastern stand and the 'full staged redevelopment' to be up to $260M.

Not sure how this squares with the original $75M for the whole upgrade. That must be some rent agreement with the Town of Vincent. Maybe ToV won't be charging any rates to residents for the next 10 years!

Soccer and rugby have emerged as the biggest winners from the state budget, while there is not a cent in sight for a new 60,000-seat sports stadium.

Treasurer Colin Barnett says a new grandstand will be built at ME Bank Stadium after the state government pledged more than $80 million for a revamp of the ground.

An improved rectangular stadium was a priority for the state government, Mr Barnett said, claiming Perth Oval in its current form was "inadequate" for the state’s rugby and soccer teams, namely Western Force and Perth Glory.

About $82.5 million has been allocated to the development of ME Bank Stadium, which will see the ground's capacity boosted to 25,000 seats.

Construction on the project however is due to begin in 2012

By saying 2012 it gives them the chance to pull the funding again if required.
I'll get excited when there are bums in new seats.

2012 will be an election year as well (unless called earlier which I doubt the Accidental Premier will do)

Using the same exchange rate as the $25 Mill we were promised in 2005, I couldn't buy a carton of milk!
