Genia joins growing list of injured Wallabies

Genia joins growing list of injured Wallabies

    by Jim Tucker

LIMPING backline trigger Will Genia will miss the opening Test of 2010 with half of the top Wallaby pack also be in knee braces or mending broken bones.
The full extent of the injury fallout of a body-breaking Super 14 could be counted yesterday when Genia indicated his own damaged knee would be in a brace for another week.

The matchwinning Queensland halfback played to the 80th minute on heart and adrenalin last Saturday night to finish the Reds' season on the high of victory.

"The medical advice is it will be three weeks from the injury date until I can run but I'll be doing everything I can to play that opening Test," Genia said yesterday. "I hurt the knee early (against Otago Highlanders) but adrenalin gets you through and the fact I wanted to finish the season with the boys the right way."

His knee ligament strain is relatively minor but pushing him to make the kick-off of the June 5 Test against Fiji in Canberra is not a tack that coach Robbie Deans will take.

The three-week timeline to run again takes Genia to game day so the greater likelihood is of him also being rested from the first Test against England in Perth on June 12.

Lock James Horwill and No.8 Wycliff Palu are both sidelined for the season after knee reconstructions.

No such a big deal when it is Fiji. He probably could've been rested anyway, although the delay in getting involved in Wallabies training is a bit of a bugger.

Yep, for Burgess, Holmes, Valentine, Phibbs...maybe Kingi, or an early comeback from Cordingley, think that's about the only Scrumhalves out there..
