The Western Force have joined the chase for former Australian rugby league international Luke Rooney.
Force rugby manager Mitch Hardy revealed the club has made a bid for the former Kangaroo, New South Wales State of Origin representative and Penrith Panther winger.
The Australian Rugby Union is understood to be in negotiations with Rooney's management and the Force have put in an offer.
"Luke Rooney has shown interest in coming back to Australian rugby," Hardy told _The West Australian _.
"There are about three provinces including ourselves interested in having him come on board.
"We're looking for a back-three player to increase our stocks."
Rooney turned his back on league in 2008 to join French Top 14 club Toulon but was due to move to English club Worcester.
However, the West Midlands club has been relegated from the English Guinness premiership and Rooney is reticent to play in the lower league.
Toulon are said to have offered Rooney a deal to stay.
When he began his union career Rooney, 27, remained on the wing but is now comfortable at full-back.
