Sorry, try "He wasn't pinned" as in he was still in motion. Watching live I had no problem with it and am normally pretty anal about such things when watching.

I thought tackled was brought to ground and held.

I remember bringing this one up when the new interpretation was introduced, and see how many guys get up "not Held" somebody told me not to worry, because when they hit the ground with the tackler still hoding they were tackled.....we can't have it both ways!

Watching the replay of the game, I didn't think the refereeing decisions were particularly poor. At worst the referee perhaps spent more time monitoring the Force offside line than what was happening at the breakdown, but it wasn't as though he hadn't been given good reason. The Bulls may have been forced to change from the attacking tactics of the first 10 minutes, but drawing so many penalties so quickly still had a big influence on the game. Creating and sustaining pressure can be so effective...

The one exception though does remain that second try - the video is here (around 1:42), and Steyn quite clearly pushes up onto his knees and lunges forward. I would have said that, if he was held in the tackle, momentum didn't carry him into the in-goal and nor did he simply reach out to place the ball - he very clearly promoted his position. If he wasn't held, he was obliged to regain his feet before he could play the ball. Either way, it's got me.

It is a difficult one. He was definately held and he was on the ground, and his momentum didn't take him over.

It definately looked like he got "held" by the tackler and then released. Then without releasing the ball he squirted forward.

Probably a 50/50 I think, different ref different call. Plus a lot of refs never call against momentum like that phase!
