Brendan Cannon is right. James O'Conner will eventually replace Matt Giteau, just like David Pocock replaced George Smith. Might as well put JOC in at 10 now, or at least at 12, because he is wasted at fullback (IMHO). I think JOC is a natural flyhalf with all of the right attributes, especially vision. He needs to be closer to the action because he is a game breaker. I am a big John Mitchell fan BTW :-)

Canno is a legend, was a superstar, is the only journo who calls it pretty fair towards the Force and was tragically forced out due to injury.........small men like you wouldn't understand that, but don't voice your crap here and expect us to eat it smiling[COLOR="Silver"]
I suppose big men smite? This is fine rhetoric from a bloke with ARU are a bunch of "asses"
Cannon is a good bloke and was a good player. It doesn't give him the right to undermine a coach that gave him a break

Mitchell didn't give Cannon a break... WTF... He was already a recognised senior player and Wallaby...

He prolonged his career at international level
The young bulls were lining up behind him at the Tahs
Regardless, it is poor form to bag your ex colleagues or ex coaches whilst they are still in playing/in charge

I'll back WARHORSE on that one, Canno was on his last season starting (even then it was intermittent) for the Tahs. He was out of favour with Link and would have got splinters in 2006 without coming West.

Too bloody right. (Bobby Simpson comes to mind immediately). But I don't agree that Canno was bagging or undermining anyone. He was talking the end of the coach's current contract at the end of next season. Fair cop.

I don't think anything personal was intended by Cannon and you don't need to be Einstein to realise that JOC should be playing at flyhalf, especially now. I guess the injury toll will allow junior players to showcase their talents, which is actually good news for Australian rugby.

I know a lot of people are calling for JOC to play 10... I think its a bad idea. You dont want your best (and only at the moment) playmaker having to tackle the likes of Nonu for a whole game, put him back at fullback where he doesn't have to shoulder a huge defensive role as well as be the playmaker. He is having a major impact from there, on top of that as Mitchell said, "I dont have the resources to move him to 10". They dont have another guy who can play fullback at s14 level... Once we lost shep we lost that flexibility... I know some people will point to DHP. But lets get the kid some experience on the wing without letting the Hurricanes launch high bombs on him all day.

I think it would not be a problem for JOC to play 10. In the current circumstances I had thought DHP could step up at FB too. But if Mitchell doesn't believe DHP is there yet then he's bound to be right. He's never been backward in promoting players when HE thinks they're ready and he's been on the mark with most.

I would definitely not make the decision because JOC needs protecting. He doesn't. He's the goods. I'd tip that Harry will give a much more tradesman display at 10 this week, anyway.

Yeah, I keep thinking that there is no way that Harry is actually THAT bad, with the team behind him he will be ok and deal with what comes his way.
Hopefully the same applies to Tatupu in defence...

Mmmm. Cross is a very big loss in that context. I was hoping to see him at 12 this week .....onwards and upwards!
