Deam Mumm, Will Caldwell, Adam Byrnes cited from Reds-Waratahs match

Three players have been cited from the Super 14 match between Queensland Reds and New South Wales Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Waratahs flanker Dean Mumm, Waratahs lock Will Caldwell and Reds lock Adam Byrnes have been called to answer charges from citing commissioner Scott Nowland arising from the Week 1 game.

They will appear before SANZAR judicial officer Paul Tully at 10am on Sunday (EDT) at Queensland Rugby offices.

Waratahs want action over biting claim

New South Wales will wait to see if Queensland's Adam Byrnes is cited by SANZAR before it decides whether to take action over a biting allegation involving the Reds lock.

Byrnes' Waratahs counterpart Will Caldwell made an on-field accusation that he had been bitten on the finger midway through the first half of the visitors' 30-28 win in their Super 14 opener at Lang Park on Saturday night.

Caldwell informed referee Craig Joubert, who warned Byrnes and Reds captain James Horwill that the alleged behaviour was "completely unacceptable".

Australia's Super 14 citing commissioner Scott Nowland, in consultation with his New Zealand and South African counterparts, has 24 hours to decide whether the matter should be referred to a SANZAR judicial hearing....................

I would say that Byrnes could be in a lot of trouble, he may only be saved by evidence saying it was actually him as looking at Caldwell there was little doubt his finger had been molested and he seemed visibly shaken.

Caldwell was virtually eye gouging Byrnes - he got everything he deserved.

The Tahs don't mind dishing out the filth, but they cry look sooks when they cop a bit back.

Doesn't mean you try and bite someone's finger off, it was pretty mangled.
I don't condone eye gouging for a second, but I don't condone retaliation as an excuse either.

Check out the video at G&G - Byrnes is off his feet and playing the ball when the gouge is on. This may actually be a true case of self defence.

Byrnes cleared (as was Caldwell). Mumm - 2 week holiday.

    My heart bleeds for him.

Byrnes started on fire and was giving the Tah's curry from the first minute. Lots of chat and animation which was actually refreshing to see - someone enjoying their Rugby....And of course was more refreshing that it was directed the Tah's!!
