TIGER Woods ruined 2009 for any sports fan who had been naive enough to remain a purist in these troubled times.

For those of us who were already tainted, Woods' spectacular fall from grace simply proved what we already know - that professional sport is but a shadow of what it was 20 or 30 years ago.
