ECC is the second rate teams competition. Two teams get relegated and two promoted at the end of the EEC and Heineken Cup.

Been watching some brief Round 1 highlights on the Heineken Cup website - some impressive crowds in matches involving Irish and French teams.

Just on what WRF said, I don't think it's straight promotion and relegation like that is it? The ECC champion does get promoted to the next season's Heineken Cup but I thought the other spots in the two competitions were just decided by domestic league placings?

Beige it's as confusing as hell. It's changed again for the 2009/10 season. There's still the Celtic Italian play off for the last position into the HC and ECC. Now its which country the winning HC and ECC team comes from.

Anyone catch the match between Bath and Stade Francais? The end zones (just for TQ1 ) didn't look to be 10m. More like 5, I thought - one of the Bath players covered it in 2 paces when retrieving a kick that was going dead. MES will have a paddock by comparison.

And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned

That's just to get in the comp. There's always a clear winner.

Bag it all you like it's by far the best club comp in the world.

Until a qualifier can be crowned?

How about the UEFA Champions League?

Just as a side note, I thought a couple of Italian sides were joining the Magners League?
