Allister Hogg was named Edinburgh's vice captain in the summer of 2008 and the versatile back row forward has provided a dynamic presence to the pack since joining the club in June 2002.

Formerly with Stirling County, Hogg recorded his 100th appearance in the Black and Red in April 2008 when he captained the team for the 1872 Challenge Cup match against Glasgow at Firhill.

He made his Magners League debut as a 19-year-old when he appeared during a home win over Swansea in August 2002 and he has also featured in Edinburgh’s famous Heineken Cup wins over Toulouse, Wasps and Leicester.

Hogg also became the first Scotland forward in 20 years to score a hat-trick of tries in one match when he plundered a treble during the 42-0 World Cup win over Romania in September 2007.

Hogg scored his first try for Scotland in the final match of the 2004 RBS 6 Nations Championship against Ireland and followed up with tries later the same year against Samoa, Japan and Australia (at Hampden Park). He had won his first cap for his country in the opening 2004 Six Nations match against Wales.

He missed the 2006 autumn Tests because of injury, but he returned to international rugby as a replacement in Scotland’s Twickenham match against England on the opening day of the 2007 RBS Six Nations Championship, continuing in the role in the Murrayfield victory against Wales a week later.

A former pupil of Stirling High School and player at Stirling County, Hogg has also played basketball for Scotland at under-16 level. He graduated from Telford College in Edinburgh with an HND in Sports Coaching and Sports Development.

Away from rugby, Hogg enjoys playing golf and was Edinburgh’s first team captain for the 2007/2008 season.
