A senior Queensland rugby source on Thursday night denied rumours that Queensland Reds coach Phil Mooney had been sacked by the franchise.
In two seasons at the helm of the Queensland side, the Reds twice have finished third last and it was always expected that the resignation of his mentor, former QRU chairman Peter Lewis, and the arrival of his replacement, former Australia second-rower Rod McCall, would leave him vulnerable.

There has been speculation former New South Wales Waratahs' coach Ewen McKenzie could be a surprise candidate for the Reds coaching job if it becomes available.
