Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup make shock move to join Holden

July 29, 2009 .Supercar supremos Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup are confident of continuing their V8 series domination when they buckle into Holdens next season.

In a three-year deal, the TeamVodafone Ford outfit the pair race for will become a Holden team from 2010.

The extraordinary move means Lowndes will be returning to the genesis of his touring car career.

It was in a Commodore that he became the hottest ticket in the sport, winning both the V8 title and the Bathurst 1000 as a 22-year-old in 1996.

Triple Eight Racing, the successful British-based engineering company from which TeamVodafone emerged, has defected to Holden after Ford withdrew factory support last year.

the drivers only went to holden because their racing team did.

the people who pay them changed. from reading whincup's comments i think he would have prefered to stay in ford. but 888 switched. and he either didnt want to leave 888. or he is still contracted to them.

Lowndes was locked in to Triple Eight just recently. To be honest I don't blame Triple Eight: they win the title, put heaps of work in to developing the 2009 Supercar for Ford, and then Ford pulls their funding.

Maybe Lowndes will actually win something for a change. He's never won a championship since he switched to Ford.
My mate's gonna go of his rocker, 'cause he supports Ford just because of Lowndes and I'm a Holden man.....so will he switch or not???
