I did not know (but now I do)!

Just a fun thread I thought up after having such a moment this morning.
For recording those, "Huh, well there you go" type moments that you come across in life.
Try and keep them genuine, you don't have to make them up.
In the spirit of it, probably the more naive the better too

    So:

I did not know (but now I do): that the Dome Coffee House franchise is a WA based business.

I always assumed it had come from the East, turns out they now operate in Dubai, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and at the Maldives International Airport and a restaurant also opened in late 2007 in Hobart, Tasmania and operations have commenced in Queensland at a cafe in George St, Brisbane CBD.

This is not a commercial... but they do make a pretty handy ice coffee...

Unusual ammount of food related threads this morning must be all this excitement over Donut Dunning coming over.
anyway i'll bite something i knew thats probably not common knowledge

Nando's was originally called Chickenland and was based in Rosettenville South Africa.. it became so popular that the owners had to purchase the store next to it to accomodate the queue of people waiting to be served, this maily due to an order by the city council to stop obstructing the pavement outside the store.

    wikipedia entry:
"It has stores in Nando's has locations in Australia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait, Botswana, Canada, Cyprus, Fiji, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Swaziland, the UAE, Uganda, the UK, the USA and Zimbabwe."

Well while we are on the food idea...

Did you know that US President James Garfield died not from the bullet fired by Charles Guiteau but because the medical team treated the president with manure-stained hands, causing a severe infection that killed him three months later.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how much I don't know, but one of the more "how stupid am I" ones recently was I mentioned to somebody what a dumb sounding name Fannie Mae was for a bank not realising it is a nickname for the FMNA (Federal National Mortgage Association).

The Barbarians Football club used to play sevens rugby. Until England started to win in 2002, the Baabaa's were the only European team to have won the Hong Kong Sevens tournament.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

AIDS, or rather HIV, originated in primates in Africa as the virus SIV (Simian Immuno-Deficiency) which isn't usually fatal.

Cats also have a similar virus, Feline Immuno-Deficiency (FIV). Not sure how you get a cat to use a condom, though.

One thing I know is his name is Rolland

French-Irish - you'd have thought he'd be pretty neutral in an Australia - SA match.
