The Force & Local Clubs vs Eastern clubs wtf!!!!

Pocock is going east for the off season, JOC is looking for a off season contract and I do not know of 1 force player that are going to play in the west for the remainder of the local club season.

Why can't we keep the force player playing for our local clubs during the S14 of season ?? Is all about money and for some reason the WA clubs have nothing

If they do stay and play then the club standard will lift by around 50% or even more But what will it cost a local club to have a force player play local rather than go east in the of season and play money rugby for some eastern club.

What does a club player in the top eastern clubs earn for a season and who pays this money?? Does it come from their S14 franchises, or smaller individual companies and sponsors.

Why are we (WA) at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to money and players but we ( the Force) are the Australian top Super 14 team undefeated by any other Aussie team this year. We have a team that almost beat the Bulls ( 32-29) in round 12 this year but the moment the Super 14 play of rounds is over you cannot not even read about our sport in the local paper ( west Australian)

And you know what's even stranger, RugbyWA pays the wages for these Force players all year 'round, including while they play for Eastern States teams.

And you know who owns RugbyWA? Perth Bayswater, Nedlands, Wanneroo, Rockingham etc etc.

The clubs simply have no balls and no brains. They should be ordering their over paid employees who administer the Force to order their over paid players to play for the local teams allocated to them.

    Life's a bitch, Piet.

I'd love to see them stay, and sorry to hear that it doesn't look like anyone is, but my understanding is it's about the standard (see Peks comment re: Perth 1st grade = 3rd grade Sydney)- unfortunately it's a chicken/egg situation- the standard will only improve if S14 calibre players stay and play in the competition, but that process will take alot longer than these blokes immediate future, which is their overriding concern. Also, without any decent development options (read: ARC) available, the Force need their non-wallabies exposed to the best rugby they can be.

I really cannot understand the whole concept. If you develop your grass roots ( in this case the clubs ) you will have a better end result.

We have players at Baysies (and I am sure there is lots at other clubs in the same boat) that are really good but while having to work they cannot develop like eastern states guys due to work commitments. There are guys here that will kick (name withheld)'s butt every time he runs onto the field but these guys works a day job and they play amateur rugby for a local club. they only train for 6-10 hours a week compared to 40 + hours for a pro player

there are heaps of money to be given away to lure old players back to Australia but no money for development of local rugby in WA

    ARU and RugbyWa wtf????

should there be a clause in their contracts stipulating that you have to participate in local club games to be eligible for Force selection Or should the third party contracts include something about local club rugby??

What? That sucks. It really is a chicken-and-egg situation, though Lower standard of comp doesn't attract top players meaning a lower standard of comp.

Another reason the powers that be don't want an ARC?

Well this is what we have been complaining about now for years development within our local comp. So why should any super 14 player play second class rugby in the West while they can go and develop their rugby skills in the East?.That is the hard facts like it or not. And untill WARU and ARU put some money into this we have to put up with the crap. We have a very strong Junior core of players that is our future and without future development we will lose these players to other codes through time. So let the WARU ARU increase funding to develope our game at grass root levels which will in turn lift the standards have a promotion and relegation system in our comp which will lift the hopes of other clubs instead of waiting for an invitation by the WARU to play Premier rugby.

I think that also there were a few wallabies selected based on their performances during the sydney club comp last year which is also a factor,I doubt that dingo deans would be watching any WA club games. Also I think the wallabies will be based in sydney for a big part of the season,3 out of the first 4 games are based in or nearby(canberra).
But I agree we need the arc reivived to keep players in perth and to develop locals.Maybe JON can call it something else and take credit for it.

Guys hate to bust your bubble's but Sydney Club Rugby is semi-pro at best. Many if not the majority of the guys who are running around are in a similar boat to the boys in the WA local comp. They work or study full time and train in the evenings. Yes the clubs pay player's but it's more of a nominal fee. Where does the money come from. Well for clubs like Randwick it comes from sponsorship and their own social club.

yes working class sponsorship and your own club social scene play a big part of it, but also there is more of it over East so if a shortfall is there then it should be up to either WARU OR ARU to top up the coffers for the betterment of the game surly?.

I'm guessing NSW (and possibly Qld) will vote against anything that overlaps with their club competitions. Hopefully an expanded Super Rugby season running til August will help somewhat with regards to players wanting to head east.

Still, after Super 15 finishes, that will leave 7 weeks of NSW club rugby to play. With a 5th franchise coming, I wonder what the possibility is of organising a tournament for ourselves and just leaving NSW out of it? 6 weeks of Brumbies vs Force vs Melbourne.

In order to develop the WA local comp to a equivalent standard to the Shute Shield RugbyWA has to invest greater in your juniors in order to elevate their standard to that of the juniors in the eastern states. Once this is achieved as the filter up into the grade competitions will lift with them. It's all about development of the juniors and schools programs. For the mean time. Amalgamating the current club structure into as districts competitons that links with junior and country clubs would lift the standard. For every club they align themselves with or help to establish they could gain exclusive access to any or all of the talent produced by those teams.

Beige that not a entirely fair idea. Considering 85% of all Super Rugby player's in Australia are from NSW. Why would you punish them for this.

It was only a semi-serious suggestion but why would that be punishing them? They keep their comp and we get ours.

i think the important thing here is to realise that most of the nsw clubs are struggling to survive. thats why they try to protect there comp so much. ad to this the likes of randwick, syd uni & co. who run a semi professional outfit and any loss in earnings means bad things.

there isnt the money in a second tear comp in australia to get serious about it. the fact not even fox bid for the ARC doomed it to failure, it was on ABC and even then only digital ABC which at the time meant the wider comunity couldnt see it.

beige i like your suggestion but would run it more as a top three from qld, nsw, melb rep side, perth rep side and whoever else thought they could step up. run it as a rugby carnival, everyone gets two or three matches and they train with super rugby coaches & deans n co can drop by for a few sessions as well. gets them experience without busting banks.
