Was a good experience for MiniGigs, we played both North Coast under 10's sides, they had a good, big bunch of forwards, and played a pretty much 10 man style of game (lots of Poms there by the sounds of the accents) That age group will be a handful once penalties and drop goals actually score points.

Rocko Gold held their heads high, winning game one about 4-2 and tieing the second one 1 all.

Great attitude in the game, there was a bit of loose rugby from both sides, but no animosity and lots of encouragement from all spectators regardless of the colour of the Jersey. I was delighted to meet the guys from there and we both are looking forward to the Joondalup carnival at the end of the season, where we'll get another opportunity to run into each other at pace again.

The boys learned some good lessons about body position, against a team that was incredibly strong in the maul.....so strong, they never wanted to put our boys on the ground, just kept hands on the ball and pushed, we lost quite a bit of ball that way. To our boy's credit, they started committing enough bodies to the maul to keep it moving and get the ball on the ground.......with a few backs spread out waiting to run the ball we managed to get some good territory.

MiniGigs opened the floodgates in the first game stepping back inside off the left after the ball was spun wide from the scrum (He was playing 11 and finished the move on the right wing tryline) Three more good team tries followed, the game was finished by a great consolation try from North Coast after ripping the ball out in yet another Maul we were losing and running 3/4 of the field from one of their big boys........

The second match was an arm wrestle, with both teams committing everything to the strength game......1 all was a fair result and the winner on the day was the game!

Good work North Coast, hope to meet you again, and I hope somebody from there's on the site to read my synopsis.

I was there as well.. reffed the Baysies U6's games,
At this age its always going to be like flies around a piece of meat but the kids are really starting to understand the basics and playing nicely together..
the biggest improvement ive seen seems to be the idea that its important to get back a few metres once theyve touched someone... it allows more flow to the game and they defend against the faster runners easier.. scoring tries is no problem they definitely have the edge on other teams in that regard!!

The kids dont have official winners or losers at this age but i can proudly say the Baysies team kick azz!! we have some very athletic & competitive kids and theyre going to be hot property when they get to U9's thats for sure!!
