New sponsor for Tri-Nations

Banking group Investec is the new sponsor of the Tri-Nations competition in New Zealand, the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) announced yesterday. The two-year deal, brokered by sports marketing specialists Essentially Group, will start this year.

Investec replaces former sponsor Philips, which ended its 15-year association with New Zealand rugby after closing its Australasian consumer television operation.

Investec is involved in a number of rugby sponsorships elsewhere, including the Super 14 competition in Australia and England's series of tests each November.

The 2009 Tri-Nations schedule sees three home tests for the All Blacks, against Australia in Auckland on July 18, South Africa in Hamilton on September 12 and Australia in Wellington one week later.
