Digby Ioane to mark Lote Tuqiri in blockbuster SFS clash

Digby Ioane to mark Lote Tuqiri in blockbuster SFS clash

    March 04, 2009

Queensland Reds dynamo Digby Ioane will shift back to the wing and mark Australia flyer Lote Tuqiri in Friday night's Super 14 grudge match at Sydney Football Stadium.

Reds coach Phil Mooney has made two changes to his side to play New South Wales Waratahs, with Charlie Fetoai returning from a shoulder injury and prop Dayna Edwards replacing Laurie Weeks at tight-head.

Mooney opted to recall the hard-tackling Fetoai at outside centre and move the destructive Ioane back to the right wing position left vacant by the injured Brando Va'aulu (groin).

Fetoai, who started in the season-opener against the Bulls, starred with a two-try performance for the Queensland Academy in his comeback from injury against the NSW Seconds on Sunday.

slightly suprising, i think i would have preffered Ioane to remain at 13 with Connor starting on the wing against turner and Hynes against Tuqiri..

but apparently Fetoia was in awsome form against NSW 2nd XV

Has Ioane played much at 13? I think he's mosty a winger is he not? He's a damn fine winger and he will cause problems for the muscle bound Tuquiri. Tuqiri seems to have dropped a lot of weight. has he regained some speed? He'll need it this week. I wonder whether he'll run straight?

Did the Tahs 2nd XV smash the Reds 2nd XV?

Ioane played the Reds last two matches at outside centre and played pretty dam well

NSW 2nd XV 29-15 QLD 2nd XV, it was quite a more experienced NSW side then QLD

Ioane sure seems to have the mobility covered in that equation, I guess the turq would be banking on his 'power game' to see him through. I'm not sure how a match up like that will turn out. All indicators would point to Ioane having the edge, but he's been known to be a bit, let's say, messy, in his tackling (is this still the case TOZCC, or has he cleaned up the error rate?). The contest might just come down to how it's refereed, which would be unfortunate.....I'm saying it's a cancel out with a chance that Ioane will lift and give the overpaid tee shirt a clinic!

ah cant really say, his tackling has been very strong but safe so far, he has put quite a few big hits on dislodging the ball and causing turnovers,i havent seen him lift anyone yet..

You still can't beat this game for tradition and rivalry. I can't wait and its on straight after the Force game I think.

Please, please let there be biffo. During the game, walking off at half time, during the second half and then walking off after the game and into the dressing rooms if need be.

Maybe Spud Carroll (league hard man) could teach the NSW boys how to unload in a scrum and Dan Crowley could teach the QLD boys how to react to it.

The last few years the games have been disappointing. It's been like an opposed training run. There is too much love between the teams. Let it all end.
