I kind of agree in many ways WRF however, I would also counter-argue (for the sake of it, on WJ's behalf...whatever...) that exactly the same things were being said about Giteau around about seven years ago and he turned out alright.
He only moved to #10 in the last couple of years.

Also if JM was keen on signing one of the best 5/8's in the world, then there really is a select list of players to choose from..

How this would have effected Grant, well considering the calibre of South African players overseas or moving overseas, he would have nil chance of been one of those few selected.

If he is the best then they will pick him doesn't matter where he plays
some players that have been playing overseas and still got selected for Springboks is John Smit, Victor Matfield, Percy Montgomery, Christo Bezuidenhout, Robbie Kempson, and Cobus Visagie only to mention a few
