So given that there is speculation that MES will have a $75 million upgrade you would have to assume that the Force will be at Subi in 2010?

Depends on when (if) the government makes the announcement, then I assume construction permits, it will probably have to go to comment by the local residents.

The earliest the Force would play at MES would be 2011 you would think.

Given the TV rights are up for re-negotiation in 2010 as well could see alot more Rugby there as well.

Just to play devils advocate I hope the MPS gets the nod after we get our upgrade becasue it would probably be better then Subiaco for International Rugby, and for the Australian 2018/2022 Football World Cup bid. It just didnt fit the need for week to week stuff that RugbyWA required

After all the Government "put it the shelf" for at least 2 years and thankfully put any government funded upgrade on the shelf as well, but I don't think we will have heard the last of it.....

Sold off to private developers apparently.
Probably at bargain basement prices due to this financial crisis thing we're having.

    Maybe not...

In todays West there is article on stadium issue Pg 6 with Geoff Stooke quoted as saying "We have decided to move to Members Equity Stadium and if that means going to some temporary facilities, which the Town of Vincent beleives can be put in place, we will until a more permanent upgrade can be done."

There is about a paragraph on rugbys issues with rest taken up with Gayfl bitching and then aother article by Mark Duffield having a crack at the force for wanting there own field and how putting public money into a privately managed stadium "to benefit the new kid on the WA sporting Block." will raise a few eyebrows at the WAFC... Oh so sad for the little boys at WAFC finally not getting everything handed to them on a plate!!!

Yeah.. in other words, the AFL and WAFC - shove your ground up your arse! The Force franchise, the Fans, the players and the corporates have more faith, support & vision in their little fingers than you have in your entire corrupt regime and will quite happily put up with a little bit of rebuilding if the long term result is a better stadium for all concerned and not just a small group of AFL corporate tossers who don't give a rats about the rest of us.

I'm sure that at the trial game the other night the radio commentators were talking about the use of tents for corporate facilities at MES, not sure who they were talking to

Where are they going to put them if there is a sell out match? Cut down on the fee paying crowd numbers to accomodate the tents? I know it would never happen with the Glory, but it's not out of the question for rugby ...

Seriously, this is a genuine question. From what I saw at the scratch match there's not much room to pitch tents within viewing range of the field.

I think the tents are for meal service and drinkies before and after game. Regular seats in grandstand during game.

Football, rugby start to push for alternative stadium proposals
    3rd February 2009, 6:00 WST

Rival WA sporting codes have started lobbying for stadium redevelopments and overhauls after the State Government shelved plans for the $1.1 billion multipurpose stadium.

The WA Football Commission and Rugby Union have confirmed they are courting the Barnett Government for separate stadium proposals on the Subiaco Oval site and at Members Equity Stadium.

WAFC chairman Neale Fong expressed regret but not surprise that the multi-purpose stadium had been scrapped and said football had already started discussions with the Government about alternatives to improve Subiaco Oval.

    Ah, I see.

Not quite as attractive as a box then is it? The idea of a hall near the bowlo would be cheaper and better for a prospective sponsor in that case.

About time a politician had the guts to come out and put an end to AFL taking reign over the state. Finally other sports have the opportunity to get somewhere with the current government and hopefully we see the big money being spread around instead straight into the WAFC's back pocket. Soon union/soccer/league will get corners and make the state more money from international exposure and competitions than AFL could ever dream of!
