USA Sevens Draw A Tough One for the Hosts

USA 7s have the "honor" of sharing their pool with series leaders South Africa, North American rivals Canada, and a team that many of you may be familiar with...http://www.usasevens.com/news-manager.aspx?ArticleId=19

Brutal draw for the Eagles, but it should be a great weekend. (Im)patiently awaiting tickets, have a bad feeling they went to my old address..

The Kenyan supporters are awesome!! They fill an entire section, and their "espirt de corps" is quite a thing to behold!!!!! Definitely helps to make this event as much fun as it is...

I think you will find that at most, if not all, of the 7-series tournaments, there is a huge and very vocal Kenyan contingent. Not only do they love their Rugby, they particularly love to party big together.

I know for fact that during the USA leg there's plenty of US resident Kenyan rugby lovers (and plenty of others) from all round the US making the "annual pilgrimage" to San Diego for one big party. Same thing happens at the London 7s, Adelaide 7s, George (South Africa) 7s.

For Dubai, the large contingent is mainly of Kenyans "on tour" due to cheap package deals originating from Kenya (the attraction here is not only rugby but the shopping as well).

What makes Kenyan supporter groups quite vocal is our tradition of high school sport cheer songs (often quite humourous) found especially at football (soccer) and rugby games. These cheer songs follow onto club rugby and the beauty of these is that both sexes love to get right into them regardless of whether we are winning or not.

If you want quiet rugby, I suggest not sitting next to a crowd of Kenyans.

PS - Expect a big Kenya contingent at the Rugby 7s World Cup in Dubai a little later this year. Bring it on!

7s rugby is becoming quite unpredictable (when you exclude the Kiwis) result-wise and most pools are getting to be quite competitive. All good for 7s and RU in general
