The Premier, Colin Barnett, has indicated a new sports stadium planned for Perth may be deferred as a consequence of the global financial crisis.
A mid year economic review warned the state budget will fall into deficit to the tune of $360 million dollar by 2012.
Mr Barnett says all capital works projects are now being reviewed and some may be scrapped or deferred.
He says the government faces a tough few years ahead and cannot spend money it does not have.
"We do have to make some choices, but like I've said all the time since becoming Premier that if it comes to a choice between a new children's hospital and a stadium then the children's hospital will come first," he said.
"So it may be deferred. We are reviewing all major capital works projects and that includes the stadium."

Different government that had always said that the new stadium may be reviewed, and I don't think that they actually promised a new Rectangle or upgraded MES
