Western Force scoff at report suggesting John Mitchell to be sacked

    Article from: PerthNow

THE Western Force has laughed off a suggestion that coach John Mitchell is facing the sack.
An unsubstantiated website report has claimed Mitchell's future is under a cloud with the board of RugbyWA, the controlling body of the Western Force, meeting tonight to consider his future.

But RugbyWA chairman Geoff Stooke told PerthNow that Mitchell's future was not on the agenda.

"There is no suggestion that we will be discussing the sacking of John Mitchell.'' Mr Stooke said.

"We have our normal monthly meeting tonight with our normal agenda.

"There is no extraordinary meeting or agenda. It is our standard agenda.

"In terms of discussing John Mitchell's future this season....it is not on the agenda."

The website report claims there have been rumblings of discontent about Mitchell's coaching methods and a move to give players a bigger say in the match committee was interpreted as a sign of the club trying to "rein" him in.

I hope that's not true. Has anyone noticed Gits doesn't feature in the picture at the top of the Force's web page any more??

    He does.
The first 5 are Brown, Mitchell, Shepherd, Staniforth & McIssac then it swaps to Sharpe, Giteau, Cross, J O'Connor and Pocock.

what i find funny is that its on the WA news that has this story, if it was this "massive" why isn't FOX sports or even any of the other major rugby news publications getting hold of this story.

(I may offend) but if this is all down to GITEAU, tell him to pack his bag and fly off with the fairies, his best mate Henners has gone and there's no one here in Perth any more to walk into maurice meads and get a hair cut. One player doesn't make a team / 15. all he's interested in is he's wallet, not his family, the club or us the supporters let him go to the Brumbies or France, we will hold JOC and develop him into a world class player of fly half.
How many other people / players haven't had 3rd party player payments (Sharp, Shep, Cross, maybe Mitchell and a hand ful of others) I dont hear them moaning to the board saying I want out as I haven't got my money, there here with there heart for the game we all love and the sky blue of the force.

I love my force and will always continue to support them, I just hope 1 player (no names) will not mess it up for all other players for the 09 season.

Just as a quick discussion point, "IF" the force were to terminate John's contract who would they get, my thoughts of top grade coaches would be, David Nuciefero Laurie Fisher, please not John Connolly (we dont want to go backwards) Clive Woodward, just a couple, but thoughts from other TWF members, if they were to (hoping they dont lose the collie flowered ear master)

what concerns me,if todays West is to be believed,is that Mitchell is on so called leave & is not presently conducting pre season training.
Now we have these guys over from Sydney on a two week trial & the senior coach isnt here to assess them?
    very suss

Why is he on leave, i thought he would have had a break with all the players?
Andy Friend was the next best Aussie coach around and will be great for the Brumbies. A long term call as my tip to take over after Deans.

Cheika is doing very well in Europe in the Guiness Premiership. Unfortunately if coaches stay there too long they pick up bad habbits.

If Gits goes JOC and Mitchell will probably go as well.

Has anyone seen the academy hooker Whitaker play? How does he go?
If we have one hooker injury we have no depth.

like him or hate him unde john connelly queensland did win the super 10 twice , make the semi finals of the s12 3 times and took bath to the top of english rugby as well as success in france. i dont think the force would go backwards under him.

With more due respect to him than many here Dave, Super Rugby has come a fair way since Knuckles was getting wins out of the Reds.
I personally think it is all BS however under the spirit of Benny's hypothetical "IF", I would think they would pull David Nucifora out of the ARU HPU on a one season contract and then re-assess in May.
"IF" the "rumblings" are true, I would imagine this conversation would have already happened.
