Japan applies to host rugby World Cup

Japan has formally applied to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Japanese rugby officials said they have sent a letter of intent to the International Rugby Board confirming bids for both the 2015 and 2019 tournaments.

"We are bidding to host the Rugby World Cup not just for Japan but for Asia," said Nobby Mashimo, Chairman of the Japan Rugby Football Union.

"Bringing the Rugby World Cup to Japan and Asia will unlock the potential of rugby as a truly global sport."

Japan lost out to New Zealand in the bidding for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

I hope they do well. I think they were shafted out of the 2011 RWC. At least it will cheap as chups for us to go though

If the IRB is serious about growing the game they will take the RWC to Japan in 2019. Still too long to wait if you ask me

I assume that one of the northern nations has dibs on the 2015 version

I think they deserve it. They were screwed over for the 2011 RWC and should be a shoo in. Plus they did a good job of the soccer world cup they hosted and will be a probable s14 participant.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
