Brumbies snap up Students

SYDNEY University prop Jerry Yanuyanutawa and hooker Nathan Charles have been signed by the Brumbies after the Students won their fourth successive Sydney first-grade premiership.

Yanuyanutawa and Charles have anchored the dominant University scrum for the past two years, along with recent Queensland recruit Laurie Weeks, and they will get their opportunities to press for Super 14 honours next season.

Yanuyanutawa had a taste of representative football when called up from club rugby to Australia A this year, but neither he, Charles nor Weeks were able to secure a Waratahs contract.

This has raised eyebrows in some sections of clubland but New South Wales couldn't find the room with a glut of top-grade props already in their ranks.

The Waratahs have four props and two hookers on tour with the Wallabies: Matt Dunning, Al Baxter, Benn Robinson, Sekope Kepu, Tatafu Polota-Nau and Adam Freier.

Waiting in the wings at Junior Waratah level are prop Dan Palmer and hooker Damian Fitzpatrick
