This award should go to Shane Williams, he has had a good year.

Dan Carter eyes world rugby award double - Rugby news & coverage - Stuff.co.nz

All Black Daniel Carter has been nominated for the title of International Rugby Board Player of the Year.

"The IRB Player of the Year Award is the ultimate accolade for a player and takes into account performances in all the major internationals played during the year," IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset said.

Carter received the award in 2005 and could become the first player to win twice.

His is up against Scottish scrum half Mike Blair, Italian captain Sergio Parisse and Welsh pair Shane Williams and Ryan Jones.

Nominees were selected by a panel of judges comprised of former All Black Tana Umaga, Raphael Ibanez, Francois Pienaar, Agustin Pichot, Gavin Hastings, Scott Quinnell, Paul Wallace and convenor John Eales.

Between them the judges hold more than 500 Test caps.

They viewed matches and awarded points to the top three players who they felt stood out in each match.

Lapasset said the panel would reconvene during the November Tests to select the winner. Their decision will be announced at the IRB Awards in London on November 23.

He said the list of past winners read "like a who's who of the international game in recent years".

It includes Bryan Habana (2007), All Blacks Captain Richie McCaw (2006), Schalk Burger (2004) and Jonny Wilkinson (2003).

Carter is in France on to check out the Perpignan club who he will join at the end of the year on a six month contract after having been part of the All Blacks team which claimed the Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Cup two weeks ago.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Where the hell is McCaw, he's a dirty rotten cheat but the AllBlacks grew an extra leg when he came back.

Carter wasn't that impressive by comparison, I'm going for Williams too!
