Nathan Sharpe: dropped one day, daddy the next

    Rugby writer Nick Taylor
    September 13, 2008 06:00pm

WESTERN Force captain Nathan Sharpe has had a rollercoaster ride of emotions in the past couple of weeks.

He hit a low after being dropped from the Wallabies Tri-Nation squad for South Africa, but is now back on a huge high.

The big second-rower had double reason to celebrate _ the birth 11 days ago of his second son, Franklin Charles, and his recall to the Australian side for last night's Bledisloe Cup clash against the All Blacks.

His wife Jessica and the impending addition to the family were priorities as Sharpe grappled with being dumped from the Australian side.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
