Force scrum remains a priority for Mitchell

Force scrum remains a priority for Mitchell

    5th September 2008, 8:30 WST

A month in England convinced coach John Mitchell that the Western Force need an international-standard tighthead prop to be a Super 14 contender.

The Force still have some recruiting to do and Mitchell said he had made up his mind which positions to fill with the two import players allowed next season.

“Tighthead and hooker, they’re the priorities,” was his forthright assessment after the Force returned from a demanding English tour in which they played four Premiership sides.

The Perth-based team defeated Newcastle but went down to Saracens, Northampton and Leicester. “When the policy for the foreign players is through, they’re the first two places I’ll look at,” Mitchell said. “If we want to succeed in Super 14, we have to apply greater pressure at scrum time.”

Mitchell revealed the Force were already researching the availability of candidates..Read More Here

"The only match in which the Force were outclassed was the final fixture, in which Leicester powered to a 48-7 win. Mitchell pointed out the Tigers had 12 Test players in a starting XV assembled at a cost of $16 million, compared with the $1 million Force team. "

All be it an off season tour for us it kind of shows the difference in financial clout!
A bit ridiculous that Gits is worth the same as our entire B Squad too.

A good move that Mitchell is acknowledging your scrum is pants.

Go and get Bismark, we'll glady accept as many 3 point/yellow card brain farts as he's willing to provide.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

i predict that the Force will chase people with souls. So no saffers or redheads.

You want forwards/props, go to England. Plenty of fatties up there apparently, although listening to saffers talk makes me laugh, their accent is amusing, so if we need a laugh recruit some saffers. Probably all their good for

You would think with an "obesity epidemic" we would have no hassles finding front rowers

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Didn't he captain the Reds in their tour - did well by all accounts.

Really want some foreign front rowers - reckon we have the Raw stuff just not quite enough technique/confidence for the International scene.

Saffers have the outward appearance of confidence in buckets (as has been discussed ad nasuem here!). POMs could bring their bad attitude and scare the sponsors. The French just play dirty and give away to many penalties - Irish Reds Heads - on the other hand could be the go - is there enough Guinness in Perth to keep em sated could be a major issue - that and Jargan deserting the Force Superstore - could be a bumpy ride but lets have a go.
