Someone stealing petrol at work today. They got their fuel and drove off while it was a panic moment, people running everywhere and buying stuff and some insane woman trying to use a gift card with NOTHING ON IT! I couldn't keep track of everything and someone slipped through. The person got their fuel and drove off, and the boss blames me and the other guy at work. He wants US to pay for the 85 dollars of petrol. It is not my responsibility to make sure no-one steals like that. If I had seen it then it would have been my responsibility, but I don't have 13 spare pairs of eyes to keep track of everyone in the world! If he wants to see everyone who buys fuel, he should have cameras installed. It is part of the risk he takes when he lets people serve fuel. I am not his watch dog and I don't want to pay for the 85 bucks of fuel. Isn't it illegal to force me to pay?!
Sincerely ruffled. And he's angry coz I said I don't want to pay for it.

Did you sign an agreement or employment contract of any kind? If so it would probably have some sort of clause in it to favour the boss in this sort of scenario. If not, then he/she is being a bottom hole and trying to bluff or bully you. I don't think they have a leg to stand on unless your boss can prove negligence on your part.
(I'm only a lowly workplace union delegate and I have to refer heaps of issues up the line to someone who knows more than me)
But hell, if it comes to the crunch and you need the job we can always pass the hat around!

Robyn, in the cold light of morning, even I can see my language to you above was far too strong. I apologise.
What I was trying to say was that workers need strong unions, and unions are only strong if workers support them.
