IRB: Lets Get Rugby Into The Olympics

As some of you may be aware (or not), the IOC will vote on which sports to include in the Olympic Games in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2009, two slots are up for consideration for the 2016 and rugby is again on a shortlist of sports for inclusion that also includes baseball, softball, karate, squash, golf and roller sports.

Critically though, the general public are invited to contribute to the virtual Olympic Congress by 31 December 2008. Internet users can submit two contributions, which will be taken into account in 2009 in the framework of statistical trend analyses after the contribution collection phase. The main trends in the texts coming from the general public will be communicated on the IOC web site in 2009, on a date to be confirmed.

To assist in the IRB’s ambition of getting Sevens back in the Olympics by 2016, you can go to 2009congress.olympic.org
and register there to give your feedback. For more information about the drive, and if you have trouble registering on the IOC site, the IRB has provided instructions here.

Also, you can find the IRB's Olympic magazine "Drive" here.

Below is the IRB's Olympic promo video:

A great idea, considering Australia won gold in 1908.

Can we vote for rugby twice?

Not sure about any of the others... unless maybe a 9-hole matchplay golf tournament? (The Olympics doesn't need any more sports of epic length, schedules are busy enough!) This would give the InnForcers golf team something to aim for!
