    Reds News

    2009 Squad

Quade Cooper re-signed for another 2 years.

The Reds said they are still waiting for 2 players to re-sign, Humphries they are pretty confident will stay and Turinui has being tabled a new offer this week.

    So signed/re-signed this season are:

    Saia Faingaa (ACT)
    Anthony Faingaa (ACT)
    James Hanson (AUS U20)
    Rodney Davies (Broncos)
    Ben Lucas (AUS A)
    Rob Simmons (AUS U20)
    Blair Connor (AUS U20)
    Quade Cooper (Reds)

Also something that didnt really make the national papers

Queensland Premier XV 42 def Auckland NPC 0.

The QLD XV was made up of contracted and non-contracted players in the QLD Premier grade(i think 3 Reds played). Good to see the QLD XV get a win over Auckland NPC though, i didnt see that happening.

    That's a fair dinkum belting!
Was it the full NPC side though or a selection XV?
Certainly some names that will feature for Australia in the next few years in the signings.

The Auckland side had number of S14 players in the side like Ben Atiga at fullback. I think it was a reasonable strength NPC side but they were missing a few because of the PNC and JWC.

Reds re-sign forwards trio, all made there debut this season.

"Prop Dayna Edwards and backrowers Poutasi Luafutu and Scott Higginbotham have each agreed to two year deals for 2009-10"

Edwards and Tasi seem pretty good, dont really know to much about Higgingbotham, seems pretty average to me.

Higginbotham is a good Western Australian lad so he must be brilliant
Would think that Edwards is the best of the three to have signed though.

Yeah, I think he actually pre-dates the Force over East in the Club scene.
Hopefully one of the last that feels a need to head East to continue a career into S14 level.

I'd say so, but if I have learnt anything from SMH, it is to not let facts get int he way of a good story.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

"The QR Reds have re-signed exciting young backs Brando Va'aulu and Charlie Fetoai and recruited 19 year old former Australian schoolboy wing/fullback Rod Davies from the Brisbane Broncos, all on two year deals."

Good to see Vaalu and Fetoai re-sign, Latham seems to think Vaalu is a absolute star, hasnt exactly shown it at S14 level yet. Fetoai debut'd young for the Reds and he seems to have develeoped well since then. He was the starting inside centre when the Reds thrashed the Bulls this season.

    So signed/re-signed this season are:

    Saia Faingaa (ACT)
    Anthony Faingaa (ACT)
    James Hanson (AUS U20)
    Rodney Davies (Broncos)
    Ben Lucas (AUS A)
    Rob Simmons (AUS U20)
    Blair Connor (AUS U20)
    Quade Cooper (Reds)
    Dayna Edwards (Reds)
    Scott Higginbotham (Reds)
    Brendan Vaalu (Reds)
    Charlie Fetoia (Reds)
    Poutasi Luafutu (Reds)

yeah cheers Burgs, its starting to look a little more promising now..

There are still 5 positions free, apparently the Reds are chasing either Beau Robinson or Matt Hodgson if either can be released from there contracts. Also the Reds are trying to bring Lei Tomiki back from Europe, they are all openside flankers.

Phil Mooney is now starting to stamp his name on this squad and the remnants of the disastrous Eddie Jones experiments have been cleared out.

The question now, is how quickly they can turn an exciting squad into a real rugby power. I think they are a solid chance at the finals in 2 years.

So they are trying to get Matt Hodgson released? Is this due to them not getting Pocock?

Hodgson is just getting into the go of things at the Force and becoming a regular starter, I hope he doesn't leave us now.
