    SW games

This season is fast developing into an open one, Margs knocked over Duns and ended their 35 game unbeaten record, while Collie scraped home what turned out to be a close game against new club Bunbury City Bulls. All four teams are looking to introduce new players into the system with Bunbury giving debuts to several players and Collie unveiling a few new faces in their team, while Margs showed their new signings had gas by blowing away Duns with scintillating skills in difficult handling conditions! All SW teams are suffering from fallout after country carnival with many injuries, but they have all turned the corner with this weeks round of games. The Sw comittee met on sunday and they too had new signings with Jodie Mckay taking on the vacant treasurer job while Andre Schonfeldt is now the Secretary. many matters were discussed at the Busselton meeting having just watched the new junior club, the Jets training. There is a definate positive air about the Sw with the jets doing the curtain raiser for the Wallabies game and Collie holding a night game against Dunsborough at the Eagles footy ground next saturday, rejoining with their country carnival team mates Katanning to play the Div 1 winners against the Div 2 for a new shield. Will keep you all posted as to how that all goes!!

Whos the new power in the south-west? Dunsborough have traditionally held the strength and depth card, at country carnival they were described by opposition teams as "clinical', they were certainly focussed!! Following this monumental tournament they suffered injuries like all the others and are now regrouping in preperation for saturday nights game in Collie. not to put them under too much pressure- but the Leeuwin Gropers- better known as Margaret River- had 19 at training last night!! A good blend of locals and seasonal workers, with 2 or 3 learning the game which is the aim this season for SW rugby!! Bunbury City fast becoming a settled side of regulars are heading to the vineyard area this week and will be bouyed by getting some game time under their belts. Collie are looking to exploit their marquee game at the Eagles ground this weekend, they too have had good numbers at training and are looking to buid on their success to date. The Busso Jets will train again this weekend in preparation for their Wallbies warm-up game in Perth on the 19th!! Dedicated rugby fans may have heard an animated rugby show on Collie radio last tuesday- with previously cynical participants showing genuine interest- its catching folks!!

    Thumbs up Night Game

Saturday night at the Collie Eagles AFL ground saw the Collie/Katanning mongrels play the Dunsborough Dungbeetles. This game was played to showcase country rugby and for a new shield- the Div 1 v Div 2 winners from Country Carnival. the katanning boys ariived in style in a Jet Black Ford Fairline 500- and played a major part in proceedings with Budha taking out best forward and Storm the best back for their team!! The Collie boys did themselves proud turning out in numbers to set the field up- the crew took a virgin footy field and in one hour and 35 mins turned out a fully dressed rugby pitch complete with posts!! Following the game they knocked it all down and into a ute in 15 mins, "have rugby field will travel!!" The game was fast and furious with Duns turning up the heat from the off, The Mongrels struggled with it early on kicking away a lot of their posession, but slowly rose to the challenge and by the second half made it look very equal. The final score was 19-0 with the div 1 winners pride intact, but all agreed it was a great success, including the guys from the Collie Eagles who have said the venue is available for us anytime, its time for rugby to come to the community- pick up the ball everyone and run with it!! the other game on saturday was in the SW league with Margs playing Bunbury City Bulls- both had full squads with Margs winning 27-0. This weekend has been a huge success for rugby in the region- take a bow everyone!!

Lou Weston Oval, which is next to the Yacth Club in Busso. Very picturesque little ground.

Great thread guys. There are obviously some passionate souls at WA grassroots, very cold night, love that! Our game got called 10 mins before kick-off due to snow, we had talked it up about how keen we were to play but were very relieved when the ref decided it wasn't safe.
I have an '84 Camaro but the '64 Pontiac is the one to turn up to footy in. Two of the other boys have Impalas,.... very cool.

Footy paddock on the back of a ute, love it.
