Winger Peter Hynes takes off blinkers to be team player
Bret Harris | June 26, 2008

WHEN Peter Hynes made his debut for Queensland Reds in 2003 there was a perception that while he was an exciting individual player, he lacked awareness of his 14 team-mates on the field.

Five years later and with one Test cap under his belt, Hynes is still a brilliant attacker, but he is more conscious of his support players.

"You get a bit of tunnel vision when you get the ball in space," Hynes said.

"You are not too aware of the other players. You are just looking at the defence and looking to beat them.

"At this level you are hard pressed to make a clean break and score. You've got to use the players inside you, whether they draw the defence to them so you get more of a break or whether you give it to them, you definitely have to use your supporting players.
