Boks win, now All Blacks loom

Boks win, now All Blacks loom

The Springboks were given a far greater Test from the visiting Italians than first expected, but ultimately ground-out a four try to nil, 26-0 victory at a wet Newlands on Saturday.

The game played in torrential rain and wet conditions underfoot saw both sides struggle to come to terms with the slippery conditions, and it was not a pretty affair played in front of a sparse crowd.

Italy put the Bok scrum under suprising pressure in the first half, with CJ van der Linde pinned on numerous occasions by the referee, and was given a hard time by his oppostie number. The Boks scrum however got stronger in the second stanza, but it is a facet of concern for them heading into clashes with stronger opposition.

The visitors were competitive throughout by slowing down the game to good effect, and challenged manfully in the pack, but there was never a concern of the Boks being beaten.

A disappointing aspect from the match is that..........rest of the article here

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

i think they will give the all blacks a run if they get a flyhalf in at flyhalf. francois is an INCREDIBLE athlete, and i doubt there is anyone around who can kick like him, but he doesnt read play like giteau or carter. hes not a flyhalf, and if they want to play rugby at the same level as the all blacks, they need a flyhalf that can match carter. was butch being rested for that game? he was brilliant... fracois should be 13 or they could try him a fullback maybe, but he doesnt think about the game, or plan what can happen, or... not understand, more sense what will, can and should happen. he doesnt have the brain of the flyhalf... they need someone who does for the all blacks!

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

Very true Robyn Frans Steyn is rated as the best fullback in the world but he loves playing at 5/8 I doubt he will be playing 5/8 against the big guns in the Tri Nations. He will be used of the bench as center or fullback. Butch was rested along with Pierre Spies and some other guys.Bobo played like a rookie and I don't think he deserve going on tour to NZ.

springboks seem to grow a 3rd leg when playing at home and are usually pretty dodgy away from home, pretty similar to Wales in that respect. Just wait for the tri-nations
