    Brown hopeful of injury-free run

    Brown hopeful of injury-free run

    By Justin Chadwick
June 30, 2008 NEW Western Force winger Caleb Brown says his only aim for the next Super 14 season is to stay fit and healthy after enduring an injury-ravaged start to his career.

Brown burst onto the blocks for Queensland Reds in 2006, earning 10 caps in his debut season and a place in Australia's Under-21s side for the 2006 Junior World Championship in France.

But a cruel run of hamstring injuries brought his fledgling career to a screeching halt.

Brown sat out the Reds' entire 2007 campaign and missed all but one game of 2008.

The 21-year-old, who has signed with the Force until 2010, said he hoped his hamstring troubles were behind him and he could get his career back on track.
“Knowing my history - an able body and I'll be a happy man,” Brown replied when asked what he will bring to the Force.

“It's only taken until now to realise how much it (the injuries) have hurt my career.
“It's disappointing but it's a great career (to be paid to play rugby), it's a blessing and I can't complain even though I've had a bit of a rough run.

"It's made me really appreciate what a blessing this career is. I'm just looking forward to the next couple of years in Perth.”

Brown has been playing club rugby with Gold Coast Breakers in the past few months and said his hamstrings had given him no troubles.

The powerful 98kg winger said he spoke to Australia Sevens teammates and current Force squad members James O'Connor and Matt Hodgson before deciding to make the move to Perth.

He also said his strong relationship with Force assistant coach John Mulvihill, who he worked with during his school days, played a big part in the decision.

“Leaving Queensland's sad but it's going to be an exciting move for me,” Brown said.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
