    Digby 'Tank' Ioane tackles discipline

    'Tank' tackles discipline
    Bret Harris | June 05, 2008

DIGBY IOANE just does not know his own strength and that may be part of the reason he got into so much trouble this year.

Ioane, 22, missed more than half the Super 14 season because of suspensions for two separate dangerous tackles.

The Reds winger received a four-week suspension for a reckless tackle on Brumbies number eight Stephen Hoiles in round three and another three-week ban for a similar tackle on Crusaders outside centre Casey Laulala in the second-last round.

There is nothing malicious about Ioane. It is more his poor tackling technique, which is magnified by his incredible strength.

Only 93kg, Ioane is one of the strongest players in the new Wallabies squad, if not the strongest pound-for-pound. And it is his strength that enables Ioane to lift players off the ground so effortlessly and place them in dangerous positions.

Ioane, who is nicknamed "Tank" because of..

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Soft Zim, he's gone backwards this year....I'm not blaming the Reds, maybe it's just Karma catching up with him, but he never had a discipline problem at the only a handling problem. which (based upon my observations) was being worked on and might be fixed by now if he'd stayed on the field.

I'd suggest his tacking issues have been highlighted by the fact that he's taken an easy deal to become a senior player without working on his game enough to play like a senior player, and the fact that he's surrounded by a bunch of guys he thinks aren't as good as him and he feels he needs to play the enforcer role!

I think you're reading this wrong TOCC..don't think anyone's bitter. His leaving (and injury suspension of Haig) has given plenty playing opportunity to Cummins and Dale and what good finds they are. I would go as far as saying I'm happy to see him gone (definitely not bitter).

I'm not bitter he left at all, I am "bitter" (more like disappointed but what ever blows your hair back TOCC) that he stuffed us around and went back on his word having verbally confirmed and committed.
I am disappointed with his character, you are only as good as your word in this world.

I am actually glad he isn't with us as he isn't really that great a player when it comes down to it. Far better to have free'd up the Squad position for JOC.
Now there is a player I'll get bitter about if he heads home early!

If anyone should be bitter it should be Queensland supporters.
How's it feel to waste money on a player who can't catch a ball, can't control himself on the field and gets suspended and who's word can't be trusted.

As far as I'm concerned for the it's a case of "Digby who???"

Um that sounds pretty bitter to me

Given the disloyalty of people like Sharpe and Mitchell to the Reds, bitterness can work both ways.

I guess we all just have to suck it up.

Digby did go well in the few appearances he had for the Reds this year. Injury and suspension ruined his season. I happen to agree that it is a technique issue that can be resolved with modifications to his style of defence.
